“Wairua whaka ute, kua takoto te manuka, kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui”
The Wairua Warrior is about Respect – Wairua whaka ute… is in reference to respect or be respectful of all that is around us. Acceptance – Kua takoto te manuka… is in reference to the laying down and the acceptance of the challenge by us all. Honour – Kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui… is in reference to honour the land on which we race upon, to honour those that have come before us, to honour ourselves and each other.
Each year we honour the Wairua Warrior by laying down a challenge or wero by our local Tangata whenua (People of the land). This challenge is usually accepted by our Wairua Warrior Ambassador and is the official opening of our challenge.
